Case Study: Flexibility
Our client, the nationwide catastrophe team in a Fortune 100 insurance company, needed to hire 200 claims adjusters in the last few months before Hurricane Season 2008, but management did not see this as a feasible goal. The challenge associated with this type of hiring is finding the type of dedicated employees who can spend weeks and maybe even months away from their families at a catastrophe site. To find those types of candidates, the client expressed a desire to have a three-round interview process that needed to be coordinated and executed on a nationwide scale.
THE CHALLENGE:
  • How do you find the most qualified people in the nation for a specific role, and then recruit, interview and make hires all while preparing to service the people affected by natural disasters?
SEVEN STEP APPROACH:
Our recruiting team worked together with a core group of hiring line managers to develop a streamlined interviewing system. The Seven Step team provided an initial screen of all candidates to make sure that they met all baseline qualifications, and then explained the demands of the position carefully to each of them. The demands were great: up to 90% travel, physical labor, the disposition to provide excellent customer service in highly stressful, traumatic environments. We then handled schedule administration for a Claims Adjuster Assessment test, coordinating candidate testing via hundreds of different testing centers around the country.
After candidate passed the assessment test, we notified the core interviewing team to schedule both “A” and “B” interviews. When the interviewing process was complete for each candidate, we collected and processed feedback from all parties, using the information we'd learned to facilitate effective and efficient hire/no-hire decision making. Seven Step facilitated professional candidate rejections, offer management and new-hire on-boarding as well.
RESULTS:
The initiative was successfully completed by mid-July, before the onset of hurricane season. Executive Goals were set to hire between 15-25 people per month. Seven Step exceeded all hiring goals by 122%.
